I’m posting this for one simple reason, I wanted to put this up as informative. Its part of why Sarah is a terrific action heroine. Both the actress (Yvonne Strahovski) and the stunt team on the show were terrific.

I’ve had cause to think of this several times times during this Baldur’s Gate run. I’ve created Sarah as the premier warrior on Chuck’s team. Just watch this 1 minute clip.

Chuck vs the Baby

My favorite part of this, when Sarah is told to kill eleven men in a room by herself, she pauses. Her handler immediately discerns this is no matter of fear. No, he says “they’re all bad men”. The reason Sarah pauses before attacking 11 armed men is the thought they may not all deserve what she’s about to unleash.

No doubt, Sarah was an appealing character. Good natured, kind and loving towards friends and allies. But devastating against enemies. An idealized hero of the best sort.

There were many such examples from 5 seasons of the show “Chuck”. But this may be the most efficient one for making a point.

Unfortunately I can’t watch the clip from here. I’ll have to check it out when I get back. Sounds like fun. Not sure I ever even saw the show. When that was live I was newly married and trying to cut back from three jobs. Not much time for tv.

I always loved Greatest American Hero way back for this. Perfectly capable of leveling a city, but didn’t really want to hurt anyone. Was happiest as a teacher. Took the responsibility seriously even though he was afraid of flying and didn’t know how half the powers worked. And even as a hero *thought* like a teacher.

There’s definitely some similarity with those shows. Chuck is more like Ralph morally and personally. He is always eager to do the right thing, but initially his skillset is painfully limited. Don’t get me wrong, he’s always smart, and he solves a few problems purely with his brains. But in time he learns how to lead and deal with bigger problems.

Early on, apart from being Chuck’s bodyguard, Sarah is also his main encourager. She believes in his brains and his decency from the start. But mostly, she’s the action star.

And I’m pleased with how well these two character replicate that. Chuck is powerful now with spellcasting. And with an 18 in Intelligence and Wisdom I’m happy to call him the team leader. But never underestimate the warrior!

Funny thing, just after I put this up, “Believe it or Not” came up on my playlist…
