We worked our way down from the Friendly Arm Inn to Beregost. We did indeed find the Ogre “with a belt fetish” that Unshey warned us about. Diomedes, Khalid and Jaheira all closed to melee with it while Imoen used her bow and I fired a Magic Missile then threw sling bullets. The fight went fairly fast. It was a little unnerving watching my new husband (!) charge the beast, fearing how easily one ill-timed swing would smash him to the ground. But all three warriors went in and they did their work. This seemed like our first bigger sort of fight, everything else we’ve faced seemed pretty inconsequential, like Diomedes really didn’t need our help at all. This time felt more all in, like our margin of error was very small. At this rate I expect to have an ulcer in no time.

We reached Beregost and explored around town some. We had some interesting encounters, including another of these annoying assassins who are looking for me. Perhaps most interesting we met a young woman (half-elf!) named Neera who is a Wild Mage. I’ve not met one before, the way they practice magic is pretty antithetical to how magic is taught at Candlekeep! She’s tagging along with us for now, she’s being hunted too and I think she’s more eager for company than she lets on. She seems pretty amoral, like she doesn’t consider consequence of anything. I wonder if that just comes with the wild magic? Still, it doesn’t seem right to let her come to harm if we can prevent it.

We also took some time to clear spiders out of Landrin’s house. She had asked us to look into it when we met her at the Friendly Arms Inn. Another fight that could have been more dangerous, I believe those things are poisonous! But it went quickly enough.

Di and Khalid take point going into Landrin’s house.

Everyone except Psyche is now 2nd level. So they’re already getting a little tougher. We have a +1 long sword for Diomedes, a +1 sling for Psyche and a small assortment of magic ammunition and potions. Capabilities build quickly!

I don’t know that I’ll continue to update this fast and in this much detail. But I do have a number of images already made and I expect to keep building my library of them! So there will certainly be more updates and more images than on previous runs.

Its kind of addictive logging their trials and adventures this way, isn’t it? You have to keep reminding yourself of the balance between blogging the game and *playing* the game. Doing it from Psyche’s point of view instead of as a narrator lends an interesting twist as well.

That face-off with the Ogre looks great! I’ve had a lot off issues getting it to do “Ogres” that I like. In part because if Kord is in the picture it gets itself all tangled and confused in a hurry. The spiders are fun too. Don’t think I’ve tried doing Arachnids much yet.

I’m of to vacation tomorrow, but contemplating setting Victor’s Victorians loose in IWD when I get back. Noticed that Artisans Kitpack has a “Brawler” monk kit that seems perfect for Big Jim, and I’ve never really tried to pictorialize some of the scenes in IWD like I did BG/BG2. And a little bit of toying around indicates that I can get some “direct application of blunt force trauma” pics from Jim punching that I never was able to get out of weapons play. Particularly when he’s punching skeletons and the like. And if I make him a narrator…. could be a lot of fun, Shall see when I get back.

That sounds awesome! Have a great vacation, and I’ll look forward to seeing a new team from you what you get back.

And yeah, I really like doing the 1st person updates. I did some of this with Jaynee and Taggert, but that was before I was doing the art. Which, well yes, it can easily take over the gaming. I have a few things already done like the Gnoll stronghold, but that may be a couple days yet? And there’s always the danger of putting the cart before the horse. Even if we all know the battles, sometimes things unfold a little differently than expected!

I can imagine that problem for Kord. The AI does get confused easily. It even seems to have some persistence on odd things, like I’ll take an element out of the description or change it in some way, but it still shows up for several generations of images.
